Private medical insurance: things to watch for

The Association of British Insurers recently released a statement of best practice on the selling of private medical insurance cover, designed after consultation with cancer charities .

While it's aimed at ABI members offering PMI cover, rather than at consumers, it's a bit more up to date than the ABI's guide to buying private medical insurance, focusing on clearer information that should be given to consumers particularly in relation to cancer, and may offer some ideas as to what to look out for when you're getting quotes for private health insurance. It's meant to be implemented by insurers by 31 December 2007 but consumers don't of course need to wait till then to check out the issues that are supposed to be more clearly explained to them (and which it's important for them to know about).
