LG Shine phone: manual, software download

I notice that the manual and PC connectivity software for the gorgeous new LG Shine KE 970 cellphone, recently launched in the UK (see my pre-launch review, photos of Shine phone, launch party photos) are now available for free download.

UPDATE: the LG Mobile site is now back up. But they've made it impossible to link direct to the manual & software. For the latest versions of the LG KE970 Shine UK manual and software try this page; but you'll have to scroll or use the dropdown, and it won't work if Javascript is off. Or go to this main site and navigate to your own country's support pages, then find the KE970.

LG KE 970 Shine mobile phone manual (PDF) - manual is nearly 5 MB (the official LG manual isn't very helpful. See my unofficial manual). NOTE: that link won't work as the LG Mobile site is down, supposedly for a revamp. Why they can't do it all behind the scenes and then get it updated on the production server in an hour or even a day I don't know. They're behind schedule too, at first their site said they'd be back up on I think it was 23 or 24 Oct. Today they removed that message. Pah. So here's another copy of the manual, I'll take it down when the LG site is back up. It's the UK version.
LG KE970 Shine software (zip file) - NB software over 74 MB - now called MobileSync LGE GSM PC Sync. NOTE: that link won't work as the LG site is down, I've uploaded a copy of the software here for now. It's the UK version and may not work elsewhere.

Now note that I haven't had time to look at either properly yet, and I've downloaded the software but not tested it - hopefully I can this weekend. But of course I'll report further once I've tried it.

Just to mention for now that it's uninstalled my Chocolate USB modem driver and installed a new one, plus created a new folder in my Program Files called LGE GSM PC Sync which contains 3 subfolders:

LG GSM PC Sync
LG InternetCube
USB Setup.

The Contents Bank has gone (for more on some of those, see my post on some issues with the LG Chocolate and computer connectivity).

it's nice to read about this.
i have LG970, and the problem is when i connect it with usb, i can certainly open the folder in my computer, but it can't be connected to LGsync. i check the modem driver issue, but can't find the modem option in my phone (in connectivty) btw, i'm in the Netherlands, hope to get some help on this. thanks in advance

Thanks Jo... I had the same problem, have done as you mentioned but have no luck (nothing's in the Comm window). What steps (in windows) should be taken when plugging in the phone as a data service? Should it just be ignored? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Jo... I'm having the same problem. I've switched over to Data Service and still don't have anything within the apps Comm's menu. What actions do you take once plugging in as Data Service, do you make your PC ignore the device, or find drivers for it?

I am an Apple user and will be getting a new phone through Verizon very soon. I'm hoping to get one of these and was wondering if any other Apple users have been able to use iSync with the bluetooth feature?

HI just bought the phone absolutely stunning phone but obselete software i have over 450 contacts in Microsoft Outlook can somebody please help me and tell me how i can transfer these to the phone.

I have same problem like You, when I switched to DATA SERVICE and try to connect to computer he try to install some driver which can't find, report error in installation and comm window in LG sync is empty. I tried on few computers and every time is the same story.

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments.

Just to let you know that I'm going to be dealing with all comments on LG posts, both Shine and Chocolate, in one go soon - hopefully this weekend when I'll have some time to tackle the masses I've been getting on these subjects. So please bear with me a while longer.

Unforunately however I won't be able to answer any questions which have already been addressed in the original post or in earlier comments, simply for time pressure reasons.

great information , can someone help me im the owner of a shine and it had a nice wallpaper with three coloured pilars on it red, green and blue as default, my phone broke had a replacement and now that wallpaper has gone , does anyone have the name of this default lg wallpaper or know where to get it from , many thanks. email me at never.11@virgin.net

Go to menu 9 (settings), 4 (connectivity), 3 (USB) and select option 1. Now open LG mobile sync, select tools and Comm option. Now you will see a com port and you will be able to Connect.

Hi everyone,

After selecting option with the "Data service", the LG sync can not see the phone it hte Comm Option.

Set communication port is empty.

Could you please help me to solve this problem?

I got the same problem! What good is the sync option, when I got all my contacts in Outlook.Is there really no way to sync Outlook with the Shine?

Jo... if you're still reading this feed, any chance you could post more details on your setup? I'm getting the same problem as many users chatting here... no Comm port appearing even after following your instructions. If you've got this working, I'm wondering what's different about your setup. I've tried on Windows XP Pro. on PC and Windows XP Home on an Intel Mac booted into Windows. Both have been unsuccessful. What's your operating system? Are you using the standard cable provided?

Just to emphasise, as you'll see from my new post, you need to make sure you've installed the modem drivers as well as the Sync software, or the software won't work.

I have just gotten a LG Shine KG70 that my friend bought for me from China. He used his Cingular sim card from his phone to make sure it was compatible,made a call,everything worked. Now I have in southern USA using his cingular sim it says No Network. Any suggestions?Help? Why would it no longer work?

Sorry no idea Anon. It clearly worked in China (I assume he used his SIM card there) but maybe it's something to do with the networks in China and that that particular phone was set up to use the networks there but not the US networks?

Hmm interesting. I don't have an Orange SIM so have no experience of that, but if it's unlocked it should work on Orange. Anyone else?

Pips - the only way I know of with the Shine is to use Zyb, and it'll cost - see this.

Hello,

I just recently purchased a LG KE970 and I'm having trouble sending multimedia messages. For instance, when I would attempt to send a picture message, all I would get is an error message stating that it was not able to send the message. I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I don't quite know what to do.

Hi there.. I got the Shine from t-mobile and i have recently unlocked it cause i m on O2. Still though, I would like to get rid of everything t-mobile has installed to the phone (web n walk, t-zones) and replace it with the normal browser on the menu.. How can I do that? Is it possible at all..?

Hi,

I just got an unlocked KE970 Shine and I am also having trouble sending and receiving picture messages. Does anybody know how to fix this? Also I can't hear ringtones thru my bluetooth, just some generic ringing. Does anybody have any info on this as well?

You will not be able to change the ring through the blue tooth - that's an operation of the bluetooth hardware; I've experienced that through multiple bluetooth devices on different phones.

I just got my LG shine, and the company (from ebay) said it would work with AT&T. It does, but the only thing that doesn't work is my multimedia. I can't send or recieve multimedia messages. I called the AT&T company, and after spendig well over 2 hours, I found the problem can't be fixed on their end, so I tried contacting LG but no one is replying. Do you know how I can use my multimedia?

i bought an LG KS970 phone in london and brought it to Ghana. i needed to decode the phone before i could use in Ghana. in the process, there was a message on the screen that Emergency Downloading, which makes the phone fronzen until the battery is removed. i wanted to know if i could get any assistance from you. And if possible any software to get the message off the phone.

I Got an Lg Shine CU720 from At&t and everytime i use the phone as a modem on my pc, it disconnects me at random and i dont know how to fix it, i have checked the drivers, cable, blutooth and the phone and i cant stop it from disconnecting me
