Blogger: new Blog Search feature and spam blogs

I'd previously posted about Google's new blog search. Speedy, comprehensive. But perhaps a little too comprehensive?

Nick of BadMagicNumber points out problems with Google's BlogSearch - specifically, the number of spam blogs which Google shows in its search results, compared with other blog search engines like Technorati and Icerocket. Check out the example searches in Nick's post. Definitely quantity over quality in the case of Google, then - sadly.

What a shame. No doubt they'll sort this out before they let it leave beta - let's hope so. It's good that Google have introduced more competition into the blog searching world, but, as Nick says, it's a bit of a booboo for Google not to have incorporated some stronger anti-spam protection to weed out the spam blogs at the outset.

I know a blogger who leaves up "penis enlarging" spams because she wants to give "the little guy" a chance.
