If you're in the creative industries in the UK, whether you're a blogger/writer, artist or musician etc, and would like a "basic guide to the law, covering the steps any creative professional should take in order to stop somebody else stealing or otherwise using your work without your permission (including copyright, patenting, trade marks, licensing and design rights)", there's a talk "How not to get ripped off" taking place on Monday 23 January 2006 at 6pm in central London.

It's under the auspices of Own-It Creative London Intellectual Property Advice Service, which I've blogged about before in relation to their free legal advice and free contracts for those who've registered with them).

If you register with them (which is free), you can sign up for a free place at that talk, but although there were 120 places available originally they seem to be going fast, so best to sign up soon if you're interested.

The speaker Lorna Brazell is from respected IP law firm Bird & Bird and there will be the opportunity to ask questions, so this could well be a useful talk.
